Regulations for Container Homes
👉 If you want to use it as a home (residential use):
- You need a Building Permit, just like for a traditional brick-and-mortar house.
- Interior height: must be at least 2.70 meters (standard containers aren’t enough — even “High Cube” ones are only 2.68 m, so the roof must be raised).
- Light and ventilation: the space must have enough windows and airflow, as required for any residential dwelling.
- The land must be buildable, meaning it must have residential zoning (not agricultural!).
🏕 If you want to place it in a campsite or tourist village (tourist use):
No building permit is needed — it’s considered free construction, but only if:
- It is located within an authorized tourist facility (like a campsite or glamping site)
- It is temporary and used to host tourists
- Starting in 2025, if the container home has functional wheels or a rotation system (like a caravan), it will not require property registration (no cadastral relevance).
